Primary Division Updates
Dear Primary Division families,
November was surely the month of reading in the Primary Division! We had two different ACC events dedicated to learning about English literacy in Primary division. We also kicked of the Shenzhen month of reading events. This has brought to our minds the following quote by a famous neuroscientist, author and researcher specializing in reading, Maryanne Wolf:
“Reading changes our lives, and our lives change our reading.” — Maryanne Wolf.
What can we do to allow reading to change our lives? Or even our families? Here are some ideas to consider to make your family a reading-loving family and even help support your child that may need more excitement around reading.
Read Aloud Together
Create a routine with parent and child in which you read a book aloud everyday together. This is a great bonding moment and can also help children transition to night time and improve sleep habits. You could try taking turns with your child, each reading one page or section out loud to each other.
Make a Special Day of Going to Bookstore Together
Go to a bookstore and pick out a book you can read together. Spending quality time and also doing it around an activity that shows the importance and value of reading shows your child what is important to you.
Get Hooked on a Series of Books
Research has shown that one thing that strong readers usually do is become hooked on a series of books. This not only allows children to become immersed in to the universe of the series it also allows them to read across stories and connect characters across books. Not only that, it automatically gives them the next book to read, keeping them engaged longer in books that they like!
Happy reading!

Parenting is one of the most profound and challenging roles in life. But what does it truly mean to be a parent? In this engaging talk, we’ll explore how communication, mutual respect, and a strong, loving family bond create the best environment for children to flourish.
Through open dialogue, thought-provoking questions, and practical insights, this session invites you to reflect on how your relationship with your child shapes their confidence, resilience, and ability to navigate the world. Discover how fostering mutual respect and building a connection rooted in love not only strengthens your family but also gives your child the courage to explore their individuality and dreams.
Join us as we unpack what it takes to prepare children for an uncertain future—not by controlling their paths but by guiding them with care, trust, and support. Together, we’ll reimagine what it means to parent with purpose and create a home where every child feels seen, heard, and ready to thrive.
