Kindergarten Updates

Dear ELC Families,

This week, our halls have been alive with the wonder of storytelling as we celebrated Book Week, a time to honor the transformative power of books and the joy of reading together. From virtual author visits to heartwarming reading buddy sessions with our secondary students, the excitement has been palpable.

Our anchor text, Old Rock (is Not Boring) by Deb Pilutti, has inspired us to embark on a journey through time—exploring the incredible stories held within rocks, fossils, and even dinosaurs! Thanks to the creativity of our specialist teachers, the Early Learning Center has been transformed into a magical timeline, where the narrative of our earth comes to life before our eyes.

As Australian picture book author, Mem Fox so beautifully reminds us, “When I say to a parent, ‘read to a child,’ I don’t want it to sound like medicine. I want it to sound like chocolate.” This week has been a celebration of those rich, sweet moments when books bring us closer to one another and open doors to curiosity and wonder.

It’s a privilege to share this joy with your children and nurture a lifelong love of reading.

Warmly,

The ELC Leadership Team

Admissions for Siblings | Early Learning Center
The continued enrollment process for the 2025–26 school year is expected to be completed this week. If your family is considering enrolling another child between the ages of 1.5 and 6 for entry this fall, we warmly invite you to scan the QR code below and connect with our admissions team for more information.

As a special support for currently enrolled families, Avenues offers a priority admissions pathway for siblings. If you submit an Early Learning Center application for another child by May 14, 2025, the tuition for the 2025–26 school year will remain at the current rate of RMB 288,000 per year.

For new families and applications submitted after May 14, there may be adjustments to comprehensive fee rate due to rising educational costs. The finalized fee structure will be shared with new families in June.

Severe Weather Response Guide
With the arrival of summer, the frequency of extreme weather increases. According to the government guidance documents, all schools in the city, regardless of region, will cancel school in the event that the municipal meteorological observatory in any area of the city issues the following meteorological disaster warning signals:

  • Yellow Warning Signal of Typhoon
  • Orange Warning Signal of Typhoon
  • Red Warning Signal of Typhoon
  • Red Warning Signal of Rainstorm
  • Red Warning Signal of Gale

If the above warning is issued before students have arrived at school, students should not come to school and should stay in a safe place. If the warning is issued during the school day, we will ensure all students are safe (including students on the school bus) until the warning signal is lifted.

Campus Updates

Welcome Dr. Li Zheng to the Avenues Mastery Research Hub
As we prepare for the new academic year, we are delighted to announce that Dr. Li Zheng will join the Secondary Division as our Scientist in Residence and a member of the Avenues Mastery Research Hub.

Dr. Li Zheng is the founder of Vector Lab and currently serves as a Senior Curriculum Advisor and the Head of the Zero-One Class at Shenzhen X-Institute. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Fudan University and a Ph.D. from Tsinghua University, bringing a wealth of academic expertise and research experience.

Dr. Li has made notable contributions to experimental physics, including his involvement in the national research project, “Development of the In-Situ Experimental Platform for Low-Dimensional Quantum Matter in Non-Equilibrium States.” He has extensive experience using precision ultra-high vacuum thin-film epitaxy and ultra-low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy, as well as repairing and improving precision equipment. Additionally, Dr. Li taught himself parallel computing, first-principles calculations, and artificial intelligence technologies, which led to the creation of a new research platform for calculating the thermal conductivity of materials.

Previously, Dr. Li served as the laboratory director at an internationalized school in Shenzhen, where he built a cutting-edge academic research laboratory aimed at cultivating middle school students’ scientific skills. This lab covered a wide range of subjects, including physics, computer science, chemistry, biology, engineering, earth science, economics, and interdisciplinary topics. His expertise and experience will provide our students with the most advanced scientific knowledge and research practices, sparking their innovative thinking and encouraging a spirit of exploration.

We eagerly anticipate the new energy that Dr. Li will bring to the academic environment at Avenues Shenzhen, and the exciting courses and research projects he will lead in the upcoming academic year. We are confident that Dr. Li’s contributions will inspire our students to take bold steps in their scientific journeys!
