Kindergarten Updates

Dear ELC Families,

This week in ELC, we captured special moments and created lasting memories! Picture Day was a joyful occasion, with each child having their individual photo taken and each class coming together for a group picture. These photos will be featured in our yearbook—a treasured keepsake that allows us to reflect on the children’s growth over time. Watching them mature each year is one of the most rewarding aspects of education, and we look forward to sharing this year’s edition with families at the end of the semester.

A major highlight of the week was the Kindergarten overnight excursion to Chaoshan, where students, teachers, and parents embarked on a meaningful cultural journey. Through hands-on experiences, the children explored Chaoshan’s traditions. The immersive experiences are designed to extend learning beyond the classroom, helping children connect more deeply with the world around them, develop curiosity, and think from different perspectives. At Avenues, we believe such experiences play a crucial role in preparing our students for an ever-evolving future, equipping them with the adaptability and confidence to navigate new challenges. We are grateful to the parents who joined us, making this journey even more special for the children.

Looking ahead, other grade levels will also embark on exciting excursions in the coming months, each designed to foster real-world learning and broaden students’ understanding beyond the school walls. Through these experiences, we aim to help children embrace complexity, think critically, and become future leaders in various fields. We are excited for the adventures ahead and encourage families to stay tuned for more details!

Warmly,

The ELC Leadership Team

Avenues Community Connections | Event Recap and Upcoming Session

ACC Summary: Bilingual Development of Children

In this week’s ACC session, we built upon the bilingual learning foundation from our September ACC and further explored key aspects of early childhood bilingual learning. Teachers shared many practical strategies for parents to support their children’s English learning at home, including:

  • Creating an immersive environment: Utilize 10–15 minutes during school commutes, bedtime, or dedicated family English time to expose children to the language naturally.
  • Parental involvement: Learn and practice together with your child instead of simply asking them to speak on their own.
  • Interactive output: Sing English songs, play simple English games, and encourage engagement without overly correcting pronunciation.

For more details, please refer to this document.

Upcoming ACC: Cultivating Students' Emotional Intelligence

Join us for an engaging workshop on "How to Cultivate Students' Emotional Intelligence," where we will explore the essential role of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in students' personal and academic growth.

This session will delve into:

  • Defining and understanding EI—what it is and why it matters
  • Recognizing and expressing emotions effectively
  • Harnessing emotions to enhance thinking and decision-making
  • Developing deeper emotional awareness in oneself and others
  • Strategies for managing emotions in healthy, constructive ways

Through interactive discussions and practical strategies, this workshop will equip parents with the tools to nurture students' emotional well-being, fostering resilience, empathy, and stronger interpersonal skills.
