Primary Division Updates

Dear Primary Division Families,

One of our Avenues Valued Behaviors is Courage. Courage is not just about facing fears but also about embracing new challenges with confidence. This semester, each grade level will participate in special experiences designed to cultivate this valued behavior, many of which will unfold in March.

Grades 1-2: Our youngest students will have the exciting opportunity to participate in a lock-in event, where they will experience the thrill of sleeping at school. This event is designed to help them build independence and resilience in a safe and supportive environment.

Grade 3: These students will embark on an overnight field trip to the historic city of Kaiping. This experience will allow them to explore new surroundings, learn about different cultures, and develop a sense of adventure.

Grades 4-5: In June, our older students will take a week-long journey to Dali. This trip will provide them with a chance to embrace diversity, work collaboratively, and strengthen their sense of courage and leadership.

As parents, you play a crucial role in fostering courage at home. Encourage your children by:

  1. Modeling Courage: Share your own experiences of facing challenges and how you overcame them.
  2. Promoting a Growth Mindset: Emphasize that mistakes and setbacks are part of the learning process and encourage perseverance.
  3. Supporting Independence: Allow your children to try new things and solve problems on their own, offering guidance when needed.

We are excited to watch our students grow and embrace the spirit of our courageous tiger through these key experiences. Thank you for your unwavering support and for encouraging courage in your children.

Warm regards,

The Primary Division Leadership Team

RUCKUS MONTH

March has started, and so has Ruckus Month! Students across divisions are diving deep into a variety of learning opportunities to further explore technology, innovation, digital well-being, AI, and programming - through special lessons, events and visits.

Based on the registration data collected earlier, we have finalized the Ruckus series of events that will take place throughout the entire month of March, with no activities scheduled on weekends. We appreciate the engagement of our parent community and are excited to welcome some families this month who have been eager to collaborate and will interact with our students by sharing tech-related findings, products and services. This will broaden our students’ horizons and help them understand the impact that tech has had and will continue to have in shaping the world around us! And this is just the beginning!

Specialist Office Hours

To enhance the connection between families and our specialists, the Primary Division will introduce office hours for specialists. You can book a 20-minute time slot within the next week to discuss your child’s growth and progress with our specialists.

Please ensure you arrive on time for your appointment to respect the schedules of the families following yours. Kindly note that specialists cannot extend ‘Office Hours’ beyond the allocated time to avoid conflicts with their teaching responsibilities. Meetings will take place at various locations, so please review your appointment details carefully to confirm the correct venue.

The form is open for sign up from 14:00 Friday to 23:59 Sunday every week for the reservations.

Avenues Students Participate in the International High School Team Math Competition in Suzhou

From March 7 to March 8, four Avenues Shenzhen students Alfred and Josie (Grade 10), along with Reed and Madeline (Grade 12), traveled to Suzhou to compete in the 2025 International High School Team Math Competition.

This competition, which was open to high school teams from across Asia with students aged 15 to 18, consisted of six rounds and attracted 30 participating teams. Conducted entirely in English, the event tested teamwork, problem-solving skills, communication abilities, and mathematical knowledge.

For Avenues students, this was more than just a math challenge—it was a valuable opportunity to further build resilience under pressure, broaden their horizons, recognize their strengths, and develop a competitive edge.

Avenues faculty members Catherine and Luke, who accompanied the team, were deeply impressed by the students’ unwavering collaboration and support for one another. Despite the difficulties they faced, they remained determined, encouraged each other, and tackled challenges together, fully embodying the resilience and perseverance of Avenues students.
