SPTC Feedback Survey 
Thank you to all parents for attending this Wednesday's Student-Parent-Teacher conference (SPTC). We hope that this meeting helped you gain a better understanding of your child's progress in school. 

The goal of these SPTCs is to help parents understand their child's goals, current progress, and next steps. Together, we can work to help our students achieve or even exceed proficiency. 

To determine if the conferences have achieved their intended goals, we invite you to take a minute and share your feedback with us through the survey below.

Music Performance Updates
Both the Secondary Choir and Rock Band will make its debut out-of-school performance in November. All are welcome to attend!

MG Milestone Day for Unit 2 and Field Trip 
12:30–4:00 p.m., Friday, November 29 | Lianhuashan Park/Shenzhen Art Museum 

Next week is the milestone week of Unit 2. Please keep an eye on your child's project completion and remind them to submit any assignments for reassessment in time.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the teachers.

Next Friday afternoon, the Middle Grades students will go to Lianhuashan Park to celebrate the completion of Unit 2. We will leave for the park at 12:30 p.m., return at 3:20 p.m., and arrive back on campus at 4:00 p.m. If you would like your child to be dismissed or picked up by a parent from the park, please contact the Operations Manager in advance. In case of rainy days, we will visit the Shenzhen Art Museum instead. 

Parent-Teacher Weekly Standing Meeting   
If you missed the SPTC this Wednesday, or if you would like to talk to more teachers, you can also speak with them one-on-one during the weekly standing meeting times.

Upper Grades Updates

Grade 10 Showcase: Poem Performance 
5:30–6:45 p.m., Thursday, November 28 | Phase Coffee (开平街华侨城创意文化园南区F1栋105E)

We’re excited to invite you to our culminating event for the "Why War" project on Thursday, November 28. Led by Ms. Meghan McGrew and Mr. Triple Oswald, students will be performing their original World War I inspired poems at Phase Coffee (开平街华侨城创意文化园南区F1105E) from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. 

On the day of the event, students will stay after school to rehearse and set up the space. Attendance for students is mandatory, as this performance serves as their final assessment toward public speaking. Students will be dismissed from Phase Coffee at 6:45 p.m. and will need to make transportation plans accordingly. 

This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and creatively express the ideas, emotions, and events they’ve studied. We hope you can join us to celebrate their achievements and enjoy an evening of thoughtful and impactful writing. 

November 27 | Grade 11 Milestone Week Field Trip 
G11 is planning to go on a fieldtrip for to visit 中广核核能科技馆 and 深圳科学馆 on November 27 to help them have a deeper understanding of nuclear power and its applications, which is the theme for Unit 2 GW STEM. 

November 29 | UG Milestone Day for Unit 2 and Sports Day 
We are excited to continue another annual tradition in the upper grades this year with our sports day! On the afternoon of November 29, G10-12 students will participate in a variety of organized games and activities. Please ensure that your child is ready to join in the fun by bringing appropriate sportswear to school. Students will be dismissed at 4:00 p.m. 

November 29 | Grade 12 Milestone Week Field Trip 
G12 is planning to go on a fieldtrip for to visit 深圳科创学院 on November 29 to help them have a deeper understanding of how science and modern technology advancement will affect our future, which is the theme for Unit 2 GW STEM.

Campus Updates

Avenues Winter Program Early Discount Will End on Nov 25 
The Avenues Winter Program is now open to both current and non- Avenues families. The early discount for Hakka Cultural Bilingual Immersion Tour in Meizhou will end on November 25, and regular pricing will resume from November 25 to 29, with the first round of registration closing on November 29. 

Parents who are interested can access the registration system through open your WeChat, access the school notification, click on "School App,"- "Exploration and Expansion" -”Winter @ Avenues”- "Register," choose your child's name, select your preferred project, and click "Register" to secure your spot.

On November 23, we are excited to host the second installment of the OPEN.Scholar public lecture series. Xinyan Zhao, a parent at Avenues and a research assistant professor at the SUSTech Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, invites all students and parents who are interested in the world of optics. Join us as we delve into the human exploration of the and physical properties of light. Professor Zhao will guide us through the nature and characteristics of light, as well as its applications across daily life, art, and science. She will bring her own experimental equipment, offering the audience a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on experiments.

Open.Scholar | Understanding the Adolescent Brain: Family Education from a Neuroscientific Perspective

How can parents support their children when they lose interest or encounter difficulties in learning? On November 30, we are thrilled to have Cheng Fei, an Avenues parent, Senior Education Director at the Institute of Brain Cognition and Brain Disease Research, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a doctor at the School of Education, Peking University, to deliver special lecture on family parenting education. He will delve into the adolescence from a  brain science perspective and share insights on how to support our children during their teenage years.
